Featured guest on Talking with TPeachanda DuBose: Playwright, screenwriter, author, director, poet, humanitarian, and producer. She is also the Founder and CEO of her own production company, Mayan Productions LLC, since 2010.
She was born in Wilmington Delaware, and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated Maury High School in 1993, and attended Norfolk State University in 1994 with undergraduate studies in Business Management. Peachanda, is retired hairstylist of 20 years, with a degree in cosmetic studies, from Star Tech Institute, of Newark Delaware in 1995. In 2007, DuBose released her first volume of poetry "Reflections of Me." and self distributed it independently in North Carolina. Peachanda is the founder and creator of 3 award brands: The Peach Theatre Awards Cruise (An international-Annual Cruise honoring her peers in various areas in entertainment, in which she was Honored with an NAACP Image Award "Hometown Champion" with RADIO ONE for outstanding community service for this event, in 2016), The Mayan Industry Awards (A biannual ceremony honoring her actors, and other contributors of her production company), and The Pioneer Awards (Honoring unsung celebrities who have paved the way, in entertainment). Peachanda wrote her first play in 2009 "Surrender" spellbinding story about a former drug dealer, and his road to redemption. It remained on stage for a year, and due to it's success, and powerful impact, that's when Peachanda discovered her true purpose in life, creating life changing stories that impact the world, provoking positive change, education, taboo narratives, laughter, and entertainment. Since her initial love affair with the stage, Peachanda has written, directed and self produced over 15 productions, including her most noted piece "FERGUSON" the Musical, which garnered (3) NAACP Theatre Award Nominations, with one win, for "BEST CHOREOGRAPHY" in '2018 following up with (2) STILETTO AWARDS also in 2018 for "BEST PLAYWRIGHT" & "BEST MUSICAL" from the "National Association of Women in the Arts." This production takes on the narrative of the "Black Lives Matter" movement, a purpose in which Peachanda has committed her life to. Her most recent production, debuted in September, 2019. The critically acclaimed "VERACITY" debuting is a revolutionary tale of common struggle, in modern day life. Peachanda is the winner of 17 Awards for her writing, and nominated for 16. Her forthcoming residency begins January 6, 2020 at the historic Hudson Theatres in Hollywood.
