This multi-talented young lady has had published several articles in newspapers and magazines and is co-author of The Worst First Day: Desegregating Central High with Elizabeth Eckford, member of the Little Rock Nine and her mother, Dr. Eurydice S. Stanley. The book shares Elizabeth’s challenges as an African American student desegregating Central High School in 1957, and has strong messages against racism, discrimination, and bullying. The book will be available on Amazon in December, 2017.
Grace has known Ms. Eckford since she was a toddler, and even won the Escambia County History Fair as a youth for her portrayal of Ms. Eckford’s life in the Individual Performance competition. Since then, Grace has advanced to the State Finals of National History Day for the past three years in a row, advancing to the state semi-finals in videography last year and winning the World War II award for her documentary about the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion from Florida State University.
A budding entrepreneur, Grace is CEO of Missing Petals, a division of The Transition Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to raising human trafficking awareness “Until Every Child Comes Home.” She has given numerous presentations throughout the state of Florida outlining safety strategies and awareness messages to keep youth safe. She founded Missing Petals in 2014 after 500 girls were stolen from their school in Africa while before she attended the year-long Pensacola Young Entrepreneur Academy (YEA). Grace chose Human Trafficking Awareness as her focus for her YEA project. Missing Petals became her method of addressing an international issue that has a striking impact in the United States. Grace received third place overall in the YEA competition and was awarded the highest level of funding from the “Shark Tank” investor panel. Grace hopes to spread her message globally.
Grace has received many prestigious awards, to include the White House Presidential Award of Merit from President Obama for academic excellence (2014), and was the 2015 NAACP Gloster P. Current Youth Leadership Award Recipient, which is the organization’s highest national youth leadership award for her outstanding community leadership and academic excellence. Her Odyssey of the Mind team advanced to the state finals in 2015, and she was a state finalist in the State Parent Teacher Association Reflections literature competition, middle division, in 2015, in recognition of her beautiful poetry.
Grace has had the honor of placing two years in a row in the Florida Commission on the Status of Women’s Essay Competition (2nd place in 2016 and 1st place in 2017), sponsored by the Florida Office of the Attorney General. Last year (2016), she was selected to participate in the Harvard University Mock-Trial Association debates, competing with some of the best young minds in the country. Grace served as “The Closer” for her legal team, representing the Rusty and River Foundation in the national competition.
Grace is currently the 2017 Orlando Regional Miss Cinderella Teen title holder and won “Most Talented” in the subsequent state finals. She previously represented Arkansas as a National American Miss pageant National Cover Model. She was invited to participate in the 2017 “Peace Jam” in Tallahassee, Florida, an international leadership program that promotes service, allowing students to meet and be mentored by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. She has benefitted significantly from mentorship. In 2017, she graduated from the “Emerging Young Leader” program developed by the Delta Iota Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the “Rites of Passage” from the Progressive Black Women Coalition, Inc.
An “Army Brat,” Grace has travelled the country extensively, moving almost every two years prior to her current residence in Pensacola. She benefitted from the special opportunities afforded in each location, to include earning two black-belts in two separate Taekwondo leagues and dance training in ballet, Flamenco, modern dance and hip-hop and has won awards for Praise Dances with her family.
When Grace isn’t travelling or competing, she enjoys reading and spending time with friends and family. Already a “Rattler” at heart, Grace hopes to attend Florida A & M University as her first educational institution on her path to becoming a medical doctor. A member of her family has attended FAMU since its inception, and Grace hopes to continue that legacy of love
